Different Energy Sources

Diverse energy sources provide us with the energy we need to live and work. These include solar, wind geothermal, biomass, and geothermal sources. These sources aren’t only an important source of electricity, but they can also be used to heat or transport. These energy sources emit greenhouse gases when they are used to generate electricity. This creates a need for more environmentally sustainable energy sources.

The most commonly used kind of energy is called fossil fuels, comprised of coal oil, natural gas. They were formed millions of years ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were then buried under layers of sedimentary rocks. Under the right conditions, these fossil fuels were gradually transformed into carbon-rich compounds that, when burnt generate energy. These fossil fuels won’t be renewable since they will end up being depleted in our lifetimes or in a variety of lifetimes.

Renewable energy sources On the other hand are constantly replenished. The most important renewable energy source is sunlight, which provides light and heat. We use it to power our homes, businesses, and cars. Wind is an energy source renewable that produces electricity through spinning turbines. We have been using it since we first discovered how to harvest the wind for millennia. Finally, we use biochemical processes to create alcohol (a clear web link alcohol that can be used to fuel) from crops and waste.

Hydropower is the largest renewable energy source in America, however biofuels and wind will soon surpass it. Hydropower draws on nature’s hydro cycle to harness the power of flowing water, which is used in turn to generate electricity.
